Hangover CityPopulation: two. After a night of dancing our feet off and accumulating large bruises on our legs (not sure how that happened), my friend and I begun our day bright and early by going to the free breakfast in our hotel restaurant. The options were great, but it still didn't help to subside the nausea, throbbing headache, and light sensitivity. Learn from our mistakes by following our handy guide to hangovers! Drinking TipsFor those of you who want to be able to hold your liquor and not be blackout drunk or miserable the next morning, I can definitely say that the trick is in the prep work. Now, I am by NO MEANS an expert on drinking, I love drinking, and if I am going to do it in excess, it is only while traveling. Below are some ways to LOOK like you know what you're doing:
Vatican CityVatican City is incredibly...busy. It is a beautiful spot but don't expect to see everything you want to see in one day, especially if you made the same mistake we did by hoping to see the Vatican on a Friday: It isn't open! But there are plenty of other spots to hit up that are just as interesting. We took the time to go to the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican Museum which are absolutely stunning and can be cheap IF you go with the right tour. We unfortunately got pulled off of the street by a man who sold us a tour with an actual company which wasn't the greatest. It was a historical walking tour with a man who loved to hear himself talk. We ended up spending over four hours following him around the city while he talked himself in circles. It was like being in school again. In hindsight, it would have been better for us to go on our own for this part of the trip with a good map and some money for entrance fees. The museum and chapel are things that are best seen in silence and on your own to explore without a guide. The Sistine Chapel and Vatican MuseumNOTE: Be sure to bring a sweater and wear long pants for this portion of the trip as many places you will visit in Vatican City require your arms and legs to be covered out of respect! In my blog post about Paris, I talk about how it is okay to visit places with whatever you have on THERE, but in Vatican City, they really take modesty seriously. The day that we went was moderately busy and it was very easy for us to navigate the museum and get some great shots of the architecture and the magnificent art. There really is nothing more incredible than being a hair away from centuries old history! They also have an awesome gift shop that has pretty decently priced gifts, as do most other places in Rome. It isn't difficult to get quality gifts for a couple of euros. |
