Good morning from the Lovin' Spoonful, where we got our first real breakfast in Ireland (not to be confused with the full Irish Breakfast that most restaurants advertise). My friend and I really wanted pancakes and bacon, so after waking up and getting dressed, we headed over to this place as it was on the way to a museum we wanted to check out. The staff here is fantastic and we loved chatting with them, they called us a "gas", which isn't something we say in America without giggling a bit. After ordering and waiting a little, we were surprised when the food arrived. The pancakes were very close to a fat johnnycake which is VERY different than the thin and sweet modern American pancake. They also brought out a rasher of bacon, which looked to be straight from the pig. I ate as much as I could, but everything was just too...fresh/real for me. They did have a delicious homemade brown bread that they nailed. Anyways, after eating, we headed over to the Dublin City Gallery which is full of a bunch of really gorgeous old pieces like works by Manet and Renoir, as well as new and modern exhibitions such as "Furtive Tears" on the upper level by artist Niamh McCann. Admission is always free and makes for a great rainy day activity (especially since it had actually started to rain in Dublin by this point). |
